Valletta gives you dramatic architecture at every turn — golden buildings, ornate balconies, sweeping Grand Harbour vistas and pockets of beautiful light between tall stone walls. Mdina, just inland, feels like stepping into another century: honey-toned passageways, grand doorways and almost no traffic, which makes it ideal for intimate, cinematic portraits.

In Valletta, the Upper Barrakka Gardens and their Grand Harbour panorama, the steps and arches of the quiet side streets, and the grand façade of St John’s Co-Cathedral are all favourites. In Mdina, the main gate, the bastion walls with their sweeping views toward the coast, and the silent lanes around the cathedral square give that timeless, fairytale feel.

Early morning is golden here — soft light and quiet streets before the crowds and tour groups arrive. Late afternoon into golden hour also works beautifully, especially for that warm glow on the stonework.
